My name is Kristy Shoebridge, I am 19 years old and I am trying to accomplish all of my goals as a Short Track Speed Skater. I attend the University of Calgary, trying to balance school and skating. This past year was an eye opening year for me. I accomplished things that I don't think that many people had in there cards for me. In January I travelled to Taipei, Taiwan as a part of the Junior National Team to race the Junior World Championships, where I finished with an overall placing of 14th. This is where it all began for me. This trip made me realize how fortunate we are to have a country that supports us and lets us travel the world in order to compete with the very best. It has helped me better understand myself as an athlete and where it is that I want to go with my sport. That same year in March I went to race the Senior National team trials in Montreal. In this competition I finished with my highest ranking of my career of 6th overall. This past season has left me wanting even more and now I find myself setting even higher goals for myself for this coming season! I created this website because in order to achieve my goals that I have set, I need some help getting there. This year will be my first year getting funding from Speed Skate Canada as I have been named as a member on the Talent Squad. But, the funding that we get is not near enough to support my costs as an elite athlete. See my sponsorship page for details. |
